Visas

Student Visa

This visa is suitable for those who wish to attend a study program full time and registered by the Australian Government.

Student Visas should not be, in principle, issued longer than 3 months before the beginning of the course.

You can include family dependents in the main application. Dependent family members are defined as husband or wife; spouse or partner (stable / in fact); minor children or children of age with financial dependence.

If any dependent included in the application is aged between 5 and 18 years old and intends to stay in Australia for longer than 3 months, they must be registered in an Australian School.

Mandatory Documentation:

  • Passport
  • CoE – Certificate of Enrolment
  • OSHC - Overseas Student Health Cover

For the visa to be granted, financial requirements must be fulfilled, health and character determined by the Australian Government Department of Immigration.

It's necessary that the financial proof from the applicant and any dependants included in the visa application have access to sufficient funds to defray the costs of travel, general travel costs and costs of their stay in Australia.

Visa Regulations

The applicant must follow the rules of the visa during the stay in Australia or visa may be cancelled, in that case, the applicant will have to leave the country.

Stay: The visa allows multiple entries and allow the applicant or dependents to stay in Australia during the course plus an extra month after the completion of the course, so the Student has a chance to enroll in another course or travel for leisure around Australia.

Typically, dependents traveling to Australia with the main applicant may remain the same period, but may not stay after the departure of the main applicant.

Work: The work permit is granted with the visa approval. The conditions related to the work permit will be incorporated into a student visa. The fact that the work permit is given with the visa approval, doesn’t give the student the right to work previously at the beginning of the course. Once the course begins, the student has the right to work.

The working hours cannot exceed 20 hours per week while the course is in progress. When the course is not in progress, applicants will be allowed to work unlimited hours.

Dependents are also allowed to work and the same conditions apply, 20 hours per week, once the course is in progress and unlimited hours when the course is not in progress.

Dependents of the following types of students can work unlimited hours once the applicant has already started the course:

• Students attending vocational master (570);

• Master enrolled students, including by research or PhD (500).

The student may apply for another visa to study in Australia. The same evidence presented for the initial visa should be submitted.

If the student wishes to change the level of qualification, a new visa should be required.

Attendance: Sufficient attendance must be kept on a course registered on CRICOS, 80%, and make sufficient progress in each study period. The institution shall inform the department if these requirements are not attended.

Address: The student must inform the Educational Institution their home address within 7 days of arrival in Australia. In case of a change of address the student is also required to report to the institution within 7 days. If the institution is unable to contact you at the address, it may result in cancellation of your visa.

Tourist Visa

This visa is suitable for those who wish to make a touristic visit or other recreational activities such as vacation, sightseeing, social reasons, visiting family or friends, not including business activities or work.

It could be requested a stay of up to 12 months or a shorter period. The approval of the visa will depend on the personal reasons and personal circumstances.

Tourist visas can also be used by those who intend to study in Australia for a period up to 12 weeks. For a period longer than 12 weeks, a student visa will be required.
